Many years ago, at the end of every October, a very special thing happened on the west side of Santa Cruz...The very Ordinary-seeming residents of a small, modest house, on a small, modest street, in a small modest neighborhood, showed forth their TRUE natures, and presented......

THE HAUNTED GRAVEYARD AND THE WITCHES COTTAGE !!!

Untitled-9.jpg (135227 bytes)

deco-halloweenspider.gif (1887 bytes)  Ghosties and Skeletons drift in a Halloween breeze across the Haunted Graveyard, while Luminarias and Jack-O-Lanterns light the way through the Graveyard to the Witches Cottage.

Untitled-1.jpg (118320 bytes)

deco-halloweenspider.gif (1887 bytes)   But along their way, the travelers must pass the steaming Pool of Death, where sits the Terrifying Banshee, red-eyed from her wailing...... sometimes, The Grim Reaper - Father Time = also awaits the travelers....

Untitled-3.jpg (146113 bytes)

deco-halloweenspider.gif (1887 bytes) With Mr Bones waving in greeting, The Grim Reaper welcomes the travelers; while the Lady Moon - obligingly horrifying on this night of terrors - shines on them, lighting their way.......

Untitled-4.jpg (128899 bytes)

deco-halloweenspider.gif (1887 bytes)  Another Banshee takes up her post, wailing and moaning by the River's ford......to the terror of the travelers who must pass by......

Untitled-5.jpg (148205 bytes)

deco-halloweenspider.gif (1887 bytes) The Banshee prepares to wash the shrouds of those for whom the grim reaper (im)patiently waits.  By comparison, the glowing and candlelit Witches Cottage seems almost welcoming, amd the travelers are relieved to finally reach it.

   Untitled-7.jpg (143200 bytes)

deco-witch1.gif (4622 bytes) The Witch, alone in her small cottage, sits amid her potions and brews, awaiting the travelers who will soon visit her on this Night of Nights...... Lovingly, she strokes the skull of her dear departed "Yorick" as she waits....

Untitled-6.jpg (157197 bytes)

deco-witch1.gif (4622 bytes)  As she gazes at her recipe books and bottles of herbs and potions, she ponders........Hmmmm........what to fix for that midnight snack when the guests have all gone?  Eye of newt salad?  Yak-Iguana stew?  Adder's Fork soup, perhaps; with a bit of Houndstooth Gelato for dessert?  Ah....decisions, decisions!

And then suddenly, it's all over.............
The travelers have come, obligingly screamed in terror, and have departed.......
Now in silence the skeletons dance in the gentle wind....
The ghosties drift between the trees and hover over the graves....
The Banshee moans and sobs her last......the luminarias and jack-o-lanterns flicker and die......
And Father Time swings his scythe, harvesting souls for the next world.....
And so......
The Winter begins....
